All websites and blogs have the potential for spam and junk backlink attacks!
New websites and old websites are no exception (old websites are more vulnerable in fact). I don't intend to explain the meaning of backlinks here, because I assume you already understand about what are backlinks.
It is true, the more sites that link to the website that we have, the better the reputation will be. But…..
If the site that links to our website is a site like this:
- Drug trafficking site
- Gambling websites
- Porn Sites (This is what happened to my sites)
Danger!
Maybe Google's penalty is ready to wait...
Do not believe? This is an update to the Google algorithm called Penguin.
The Penguin update started in 2012 and continued to be updated until 2016. From several points that were updated, the link became the main highlight.
The backlinks highlighted in the update are like this:
- Links from sites that are not relevant.
- Spam backlinks that are included in the comments.
- The number of backlinks is not natural.
So, pIn this discussion, we will solve the first problem, namely links from irrelevant sites. It could also solve the problem of point no 3.
That is by disavowing junk backlinks using Google Search Console.
How to Disavow Backlinks on GSC
Maybe you are wondering why only on Google do we reject backlinks?
The answer is simple, Google is a search engine that is willing to impose penalties on violators of its policies.
OK, let's move on to the technical disavow link or disavow backlink spam.
1. Check Junk Backlinks
Open Google Search Console, then click on the link at the bottom left. To be clearer look at the image below:
From the picture you can see some of the linked sites, for more details select the top linked site and click more.
2. Check the Links One By One
This one is quite tiring, because the more spam you leave, the more spam you will get.
As you can see, a lot of porn sites link to my website. Don't know for sure the cause, but I remember there are several possibilities that cause trash backlinks like this to appear.
- Using fake SEO services (As a result they use backlinks like their foreheads)
- Buy a domain that turns out to be an expired domain.
- Competitors who intentionally want to make your website rank down.
3. Record All Linking Spam Domains or Urls
For me, recording the domain and url one by one is very tiring. Because there are so many of them. From Google Search Console itself, it has provided a format for writing a list of domains and URLs that will be disavow.
#Note the rejection list with notepad, to get the .txt file format.
Example:
# Two pages to disapprove http://spam.example.com/stuff/comments.html http://spam.example.com/stuff/paid-links.html # One domain to disapprove domain:shadyseo.com
The difference between a domain and a url is that when we write down a domain to be rejected, all urls from that domain will be blacklisted as well.
In this case, I list all the domains that provide spam backlinks.
3. Submit Files To Google Search Console
The next step is to upload the file that was created in notepad earlier to Google Search Console Disavow Tools.
Once it's finished uploading, just wait for Google to do its job. It will usually take a few weeks for it to disappear from the list of links.
Conclusion
That's how to deal with spam backlinks that will make the website's reputation bad. It should be necessary to check incoming links regularly.
Because the better the link that links to our site, the better the effect it will have on competing in the SERP. Don't forget to remind me that it's okay to use SEO services.
But what needs to be avoided is SEO services that are not responsible. Because we can't control what they do directly. You know, a month later, garbage links like the one above appear.
Finally, before buying a domain, make sure the domain you are going to buy has been checked for history. You can use a web archive or backlink checker before deciding to buy a domain.
So, hopefully useful...
